Reduce stress. Make stress relief your goal. Take time to read your favorite books, spend time with your family and friends, and pursue other relaxing activities. Reduce stress and you lower your chance of hypertension, obesity, high blood sugar and high triglycerides.

Stay mentally engaged. It’s the best way to keep your brain in high gear. Do anything that challenges you. Play scrabble, chess, do crossword puzzles or take classes in something that interests you.

Watch the sugar, it doesn’t matter how it’s labeled. Sugar is sugar. Eat plain vegetables, fruit, whole grains, without sauces, low fat dairy. Eat fish, turkey and chicken without skin. Otherwise, choose dried beans, eggs, tofu, and nuts for protein. If you are overweight, cut down on the calories.
